Nostrification of education documents

The procedure for recognizing the equivalence of education documents issued by schools abroad is regulated by several legal norms.

Another law that regulates this process is Law no. 71/1967 coll. on administrative proceedings (administrative procedure) as amended. However, we should not forget the Act No. 245/2008, which is the law on education, as well as concluded and valid international agreements.

The process of recognizing the equivalence of educational documents issued by foreign primary and secondary schools is regulated by the Law of the National People’s Republic of Slovakia no. 422/2015 on the recognition of educational documents and on the recognition of professional qualifications and on amendments to some laws.

Nostrification refers only to the certificate of completion of education, but it is not a certificate of professional qualification and can only be used for academic purposes. Such a goal is, for example, the continuation of another study.

Confirmation of education received after completion of higher education I. or II. a degree obtained abroad is recognized by a university in the Slovak Republic offering a study program in the same or a related field of study. The decision on the equivalence of relevant educational documents is regulated by Law no. 131/2002 on universities as amended and Decree No. 238/2005 on the procedure for the recognition of educational documents.

Education by the authority of the country of origin responsible for its verification, unless otherwise stipulated by an international agreement.

The application must include the name and surname, the address of permanent or similar residence, the subject of the request, the name and address of the recognized primary or secondary school that issued the certificate of education, the year of graduation, and the applicant’s signature. It is also necessary to add an identity document (the original of the document must also be brought with you), a certified copy of the document on complete education, a report on the subjects taken and exams passed, confirmation from a recognized secondary school about the amount of practical training, in the case of secondary vocational or full secondary of professional education, verification of the authenticity of signatures and imprint of the school seal on the school graduation certificate, confirmation of payment of the administrative fee.

A graduate of a foreign school, according to his place of residence, submits documents to the relevant District Department in accordance with §36 or §39 of Law No. 2000. 422/2015 on the recognition of educational documents and on the recognition of professional qualifications and on the amendment of certain laws. The procedure for recognizing an education document begins with the submission of an application.
